Album Art Sketches

I met with my brilliant friend and artistic associate “The Artist” on Monday (the artist requested to remain nameless for now.) We met to review artwork for the cover of Crossing the Black to be released summer 2015! We started with a discussion about art and music, and ended up in a cribbage game with a couple of drunken strangers. I won.

The sketches capture my vision perfectly. The music on this record is some of my most personal work, drawing on my experiences, my fantasies and my present life. The title “Crossing the Black” refers to the Black River in upstate New York where I spent many of my summers and weekends growing up from 1988 to 1997. I have so many memories of that Black River and our Black River cabin. I paddled our green canoe from the Miller’s Woods Crossing to the Hawkinsville dam more times that I could count, and explored every nook and cranny of the river.

I experienced some of the most meaningful and influential family moments around the fire pit out in front of the cabin. It pretty much sums up what it means to be a Chapple, and symbolizes how I’ve been shaped into the man I am today. The green canoe, the house, the river, the glow of the fire… it’s all there in the pictures.

Crossing the Black will depict many of my successes and struggles, both literally and metaphorically. Join my email list to be updated on the progress of the record.
